Licensing

The license for SkoopCMS falls into tree subcategories. Because the system contains parts from other open souce projects they must be included, of course. There is nothing to fear, however. The licenses are not too restrictive as you might already know.

Third party licenses

The following projects have their own licensing terms so you should have a look at the list, at least:

If you can point out parties that have been accidentally left out, please let me know

SkoopCMS Client End License

The client end means the part visible to normal visitor as opposed to the adminstration end. SkoopCMS client end is to be considered as a collection of ideas. These ideas or the code produced will never have any license fees or any severe restrictions of use. If you find a copyright notice in the code please be nice and leave it there, if you can. But even this is not mandatory. Use the ideas and the code as you wish.

Presenting the code or the system as one's own brainwork, however, is considered to be bad, uncivilized behaviour and subject to general despise. Anybody acting like this shoud make a trip to the Isle of Skye, climb up the Quiraing and feel deep remorse.

That said donations and job offers are more than welcome!

SkoopCMS Database Handling Classes License

These few libraries are set apart due to their different nature. They have been developed in a company I have beein working with and heavily used in a commercial environment. They are also more complicated in nature, in constant development and much more than just 'a collection of ideas'. They have a double licensing model and they may be distributed using one of the following licenses:

  • PLCNI (Please Leave Copyright Notice Intact) license for for scrambled-format libraries.
  • A separate commercial source code license tailored to your needs if needed. Please contact if interested.

The first alternative lets you use the libraries as you wish provided you leave the original copyright notice intact.  These libraries do not provide full functionality and are ¨frozen¨ in their current level. That does not mean that they fail to work now or in the future. Their updates will be fewer and not all latest functionality will be implemented. Because we know that this might not suit everybody we have created the commercial alternative for it. The PLCNI license only applies to library parts where the copyright notice can be found in the code.

Note that if you write your own backend wthout using any of the Database Handling Classes you can determine your own licensing model. The ideas in the Database Handling libraries are, of course, free for everybody to make creative use of.
